Coaching

Practical craft insight, professional publishing strategy, and the creative support you’ve been looking for.

Maybe you’ve carried the idea for years: a story that won’t leave you alone, a memoir that wants to be told, a dream of holding your book in your hands. Maybe you’ve made a start. Maybe you’ve written a first draft and hit a wall. Or maybe you’re finally ready to take your creative ambition seriously — to stop wondering how writers do it and start finding out.

Whatever stage you’re in — dreaming, drafting, or determined to finish — you don’t have to go it alone.

That’s where I come in.

I’m Georgia Clark — the internationally published author of seven novels (Most Wonderful, Island Time, It Had To Be You, and others*) and a longtime developmental editor and coach. My books have been optioned for film and television, featured by People, Harper’s Bazaar, and The Cut, and read around the world. I also work behind the scenes as a story coach for 831 Stories, guiding romance and women’s fiction authors toward publishable, compelling manuscripts.

I’ve spent years helping writers clarify their stories, strengthen their voice, and build the confidence to finish. My coaching blends professional craft insight, industry-savvy strategy, and the empathy of someone who’s deep in the trenches herself as a successful, working novelist.

Who I Work With

Each coaching relationship is customized — but most writers I work with fall into one of three categories:

The Newbie

You’ve never tried to write a book, but the idea is calling you. You’re ready to stop waiting for the “right time” and start creating. I’ll help you find your genre, outline your story, and build a process that works for your life.

The Drafter

You’ve never tried to write a book, but the idea is calling you. You’re ready to stop waiting for the “right time” and start creating. I’ll help you find your genre, outline your story, and build a process that works for your life.

The Expert

You’ve started writing (or finished a first draft), but you’re stuck. You need structure, feedback, and a creative thought partner to help you shape your story into a manuscript you’re proud of.

  • “Georgia used her incredible knowledge of the publishing world to diagnose my project and provide actionable next steps. She guided me to figure out which path forward was the best fit. I appreciated the time we spent brainstorming together, as that is often the most lonely part of the writing process. Her honesty alone is invaluable. I’d highly recommend working with her.”

    — Katie Cline

  • "Having a book coach like Georgia is essential for anyone struggling to move forward with their manuscript, no matter the stage. Whether you need help fleshing out an idea, improving a rough draft, or tightening up later revisions, Georgia is the person to turn to. She's an incredible listener who can answer any question about writing, editing, or publishing. As an encouraging friend with hard-won wisdom from her own career, she'll help you succeed. Georgia is worth the investment—and then some!"

    — Giovanna Bernardo

  • “I was in a writing slump after completing my first draft and getting feedback that the central conflict was too flat. I felt lost and uninspired. I reached out to Georgia for a coaching session and got the Hail Mary I was looking for. She immediately centered in on the opportunities in my book, helping me to bring through stronger ideas and build them through my plot. One hour of Georgia’s coaching spring-boarded me into my revision and I feel that now I have a much more compelling story.”

    — Sarah Constanza

  • “Georgia’s expertise and passion for writing are undeniable. What made the biggest impact is her ability to use her skills to give advice and feedback that is specific to my book and writing. As a first time writer, I found starting my writing and publishing journey with a coach like Georgia to be informative and eye-opening. Her advice on how to improve writing, things to consider when publishing a book, and be more focused and intentional about the content of a book were crucial for me as I embark on this journey.”

    — Amir Ashour

  • "Writing a rom-com has been a lifelong dream, and after taking classes and workshops, I knew I needed personalized support from someone who understands how to get published. Hiring Georgia as my book coach has been the best investment in pursuing that goal. In our first session, she helped me turn my vague ideas into a strong plot, and after our second session, her detailed feedback gave me the confidence to start writing. If you want a coach who cares about your story and will inspire and challenge you, don’t miss the chance to work with Georgia."

Frequently asked questions:
  • Before each session, I’ll review up to 2,500 words of prose or 1,000 words of outline/synopsis, formatted in standard manuscript style (double-spaced, 12pt font, standard margins). This pre-reading is included in your session fee at no extra cost.

  • A. Additional reading is charged at $100 per hour per session. For that, I can do an extra 1,000 of outline or 2,500 of prose. Or, let me know your page count and type of writing (prose or summary) for a custom quote.

  • A. For in-person sessions, connect in a quiet place where you can focus. We’ll connect via Zoom so the session can be recorded for your reference, but it’s up to you whether you want the camera on or off. I’ll send a Zoom link and Google cal invite prior to the session. After our session, I’ll send you a link to the recording. We can discuss a project, brainstorm ideas or plot holes, ask questions related to craft or publishing etc.

  • A. Some clients prefer to spend the time getting in-depth editorial feedback on a piece of writing. So, instead of connecting over Zoom, I’ll use your hour reading and producing in-line notes (comments) on a work-in-progress. In a typical one-hour session, I can edit up to 2,500 words of prose or 1000 words of an outline or proposal, and provide a one-page summary of editorial feedback that highlights the piece’s strengths and provides insight into what needs attention. My editorial style is craft-based, practical, and encouraging. I provide editorial feedback, not copy-edits (you can copy-edit/proof your writing online for free!). Multiple sessions can be combined for longer reads. Feedback is sent via email.

For all clients, I offer a 10-minute window of reading time prior to our session. I can read up to ten pages (double-spaced, 12pt font) of prose, or five pages of outline/summary. That’s just a read, not editing: I don’t return the pages with feedback, if we’re connecting in-person for the full hour.

  • No worries! Just email me. Sessions never expire.
