Ask and ye shall receive.
There is so much wonderful truth in this old adage. And I know, because on a few days before Christmas I found out I'd won a scholarship to attend the Rocaberti Castle Writers Retreat in Spain! I'd applied on a whim, after my good pal Alana passed on the opportunity through Scott Myers' awesome writerly website Go Into The Story. The application was simple: pitch yourself and the book you'd like to make into a movie. I sent through my info about The Regulars -- contemporary, feminist fairytale set in Brooklyn, already acquired by Simon & Schuster for pub in August '16 - and hey ho, I'm off to Barcelona.
I hadn't really planned to work on a screenplay for The Regs, busy as I am with a new book, which seemed like a safer, surer bet than a screenplay that might just disappear into the ether. But opportunity is a knocking. And I love being a good host. So who knows? I have to admit: turning my own book into a movie is pretty much my ultimate fantasy.
I'm so excited to meet my mentor Juliet Blake, and the other teachers and writers who'll be out there. I know I'll learn a lot and make some great connections. And did I mention it's castle? Love it like whoa. I'll let you know how I go. And let me know if you have any questions about the process in the comments. G xo
