Romance Workshop (virtual)
Learn to write a romance novel in a fun, supportive, and inspiring workshop environment.
Join me Monday May 6th, Monday May 13th, Monday May 20th, Monday June 3rd, 6pmET - 8pmET.
Inspiring. Practical. Transformational.
Romance novels weave sophisticated and emotional tales of true love. Many have diverse casts and move through an engaging plot that offers insight into love and relationships, sex and romance. In these dark times, romance has never been more popular, with editors keen to discover new voices. This workshop will give you the best chance of writing your romance and getting it published.
This fun and intimate class is a mix of craft lectures, writing exercises, and a workshop environment. Each class will gives writers substantial feedback on a 2,500-word (roughly 10 pages) piece. Relevant to those working on romance novels, romance as a subplot within a different genre, and women’s fiction.
You CAN write + sell a novel!
Why workshop?
Getting feedback from your fellow writers will highlight your story’s strengths, as well as the parts that aren’t yet hitting the mark. Receiving thoughtful and supportive feedback will always strengthen your work and make it even more appealing to agents and editors. Even if you’ve never taken a writing class or workshop before, you’ll benefit from your work being analyzed and explored by a sensitive group of writers working in the same genre as you.
What will be covered?
The modern romance: Understand what readers and editors are looking for (sexiness! diversity! hope! authenticity!) and how to make your work stand out.
Structure: How to plan the arc of your romance to hit the most impactful emotional notes.
Character: How to create and develop compelling and believable romantic leads, and a useful supporting cast.
Narration/voice: Who tells the story and why? Learn how to make the most effective choice.
Plot: How to ensure your action delivers a cohesive, memorable story that builds to a strong climax.
Style: Focus on a line-level: how to write elegant, evocative prose free of cliche.
Industry spotlight: How to find an agent, work with a freelance editor, commit to a writing practice, and get published
***Meet literary agent Allison Hunter***: You’ll get one-on-one time to ask literary agent Natalie Edwards your questions!

“Island Time is a fun, steamy rom-com about finding love in unexpected places. A feel-good sapphic love story ideal for armchair travelers.”
— Publishers Weekly“It Had To Be You is the book-equivalent of a perfect first date. It’s instantly engaging, fun, inclusive, big-hearted and most importantly, it’s smart. Georgia Clark is a fierce talent and her storytelling powers are on full display here. I’m SMITTEN with this novel. Highly highly recommended!”

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What do you mean by romance?
A. Romance is a huge genre that includes many sub-genres. One of the most popular is the rom-com, but also romantic drama. Romance includes contemporary and historical, Young Adult, paranormal, and erotica. This workshop welcomes all romance!
Q. Do I have to be writing a romance?
A. Nope. As long as you have romance as an element or subplot, your book can be any genre (i.e. everything from thriller to general fiction to YA.)
Q. What level is this class for?
A. This class is designed to be accessible and beneficial for all levels, especially those writers interested in completing a full-length manuscript of a novel.
Q. Do I need to have finished a whole book?
A. No! You’ll only be workshopping a 2,500 piece.
Q. What do I submit to be workshopped?
A. A work-in-progress piece of writing, typically a first or second draft. It shouldn’t be full of your comments/notes/have missing sections: it should be a clean piece of writing, ready for feedback.
Q. When do I need to submit my piece?
A. We workshop a few students a week, starting Week 2. In Week 1, some students will submit pieces (I ask for volunteers in an email sent a few weeks before), then we assign workshops for everyone else. If you’re worried you might not have something straight away, you can elect to workshop in the last weeks.
Q. What if I can’t make a class?
A. You are expected to attend every workshop via Zoom. If extenuating circumstances prevent you from being present, all classes will be recorded, so you can view the class afterwards, and receive any handouts. You’ll still need to provide feedback on your fellow students’ work, via email, by the due date.
Q. What kind of feedback will I get back on my work?
A. Getting and giving feedback is an art. In the first class, I will explain how to give and get encouraging, insightful, practical feedback. In getting notes from every other class member, you’ll quickly see your work’s strengths and weaknesses. If you want to see an example of the feedback, email me on hellogeorgia@gmail.com.
Q. How is the class structured?
A. Each class will include a short craft lecture and/or writing exercise, and a minimum of a 30-minute workshop per student, which involves every student giving written and verbal feedback on a piece submitted the week prior.
Q. What’s the refund policy?
A. Students can receive a full refund for the first 48 hours after purchase, as long as purchase is made more than one week (7 days) prior to the first class. After that, a 50% refund is offered if a refund is requested up to one week (7 days) prior to the first class, if there is no one on the wait list (if there is, a full refund is offered). No refunds can be offered if you cancel in the week leading up to class, but you will be instantly enrolled in the next workshop, if it is offered.
